Classic Beef Stew Recipe

Introduction:

Beef stew is a traditional dish that has been savored across cultures for centuries.

Known for its rich flavors and comforting qualities, it combines slow-cooked beef with a medley of vegetables, all simmered in a savory broth.

This dish not only warms the body but also the soul, making it a perfect meal for family gatherings or a cozy night in.

Ingredients:

2 lbs beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 large onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

4 cups beef broth

1 cup red wine (optional)

3 carrots, peeled and sliced

2 potatoes, peeled and cubed

1 cup frozen peas

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 bay leaf

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

Prepare the Beef:

Pat the beef dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper. Toss the beef cubes in flour to coat.

Brown the Beef:

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef in batches and brown on all sides. Remove the beef and set aside.

Sauté Vegetables:

In the same pot, add the chopped onion and cook until translucent. Add the garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Deglaze and Simmer:

Pour in the red wine (if using) and scrape the bottom of the pot to loosen any browned bits. Add the beef broth, carrots, potatoes, thyme, and bay leaf. Return the beef to the pot.

Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for about 1.5 to 2 hours or until the beef is tender.

Finish the Stew:

Add the frozen peas and cook for an additional 10 minutes. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.

Remove the bay leaf before serving.

Serve:

Ladle the stew into bowls and garnish with chopped fresh parsley.

This classic beef stew recipe delivers a deeply satisfying experience with its robust flavors and tender meat.
