Their irresistible combination of a crispy, golden-brown exterior and a tangy, juicy interior makes them a perfect appetizer or side dish.

With this easy-to-follow recipe, you can enjoy the deliciousness of fried pickles right in your own home.

Crispy Homemade Fried Pickles

Ingredients:

1 jar of dill pickle slices (about 24 ounces)

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Salt and pepper to taste

2 large eggs

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 cup cornmeal

Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

Prepare the Pickles:

Drain the pickle slices and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This step is crucial for ensuring the batter sticks well and fries up crispy.

Set Up the Breading Station:

In one shallow bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.

In a second shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.

In a third shallow bowl, place the cornmeal.

Bread the Pickles:

Dredge each pickle slice in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess.

Dip the floured pickle slice into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.

Finally, coat the pickle slice in the cornmeal, pressing lightly to ensure it adheres well.

Fry the Pickles:

Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

Fry the pickles in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the skillet. Cook each batch for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.

Remove the fried pickles with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Serve:

Serve the fried pickles hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing, spicy mayo, or a tangy barbecue sauce.

Tips for Perfect Fried Pickles:

Dry the Pickles: Ensuring the pickles are well-dried before breading helps the coating adhere better and results in a crispier finish.

Maintain Oil Temperature: Keep an eye on the oil temperature to ensure it stays around 375°F (190°C). Too low, and the pickles will absorb too much oil; too high, and they may burn.

Serve Immediately: Fried pickles are best enjoyed fresh and hot out of the oil. If you need to keep them warm, place them in a single layer on a baking sheet in a low oven (about 200°F) until ready to serve.

Fried pickles are a delightful treat that brings a bit of Southern charm to any gathering.

Whether you’re hosting a party, enjoying a family meal, or simply craving a tasty snack, these crispy, tangy bites are sure to satisfy.

Give this recipe a try and watch them disappear from the plate in no time!
